Optimize Your Facial Contours With a Nonsurgical Double Chin Treatment

Though plastic surgery can deliver dramatic results for a range of cosmetic concerns, it doesn’t always have to be the first line of defense. Problem areas like double chins can be treated safely and effectively with nonsurgical and noninvasive solutions.

No nonsurgical double chin treatment will deliver identical results to its surgical counterpart, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be the best option for the right candidates. At Phases Skin Care and Laser Center, we offer nonsurgical options for your double chin treatment, such as Ulthera, RF microneedling, and CoolSculpting.

Getting the treatments you need and the transformative results you deserve can help get you back to feeling confident in your skin and living your best life.

Double chins are a common cause of insecurity. Our expert providers can help reduce the appearance of your double chin and enhance your natural beauty without the need for surgery.

What’s the deal with double chins?

The phrase “double chin,” as you probably know, refers to the bulge below the jawline that gives the appearance of a second chin. This bulge is often caused by a layer of stubborn fat, and it tends to worsen as the skin gradually loosens with age.

Double chins can be caused by weight gain, but many people who develop a double chin are not overweight. Even people at their ideal weight can develop a double chin. This can be frustrating, as the appearance of a double chin tends to make people look heavier and older than they actually are.

In addition to weight fluctuation, genetics and aging can play a major role in the development of a double chin. As you get older, your body produces less and less new collagen, an essential building block of elastic, firm, and youthful skin. Over time, this can cause your skin to loosen and become less resistant to the pull of gravity.

Even double chins caused by weight gain can sometimes stick around after you lose the weight. This can be due to the way your body stores and distributes fat as well as uneven fat loss, but it can also be the result of stretched skin that isn’t elastic enough to snap back after the fat that was supporting it is gone.

Which nonsurgical double chin treatment is right for you?

The treatment, or combination of treatments, that works best for you will depend on your unique needs and goals for treatment. For some of our patients at Phases, loose skin is their primary reason for seeking treatment. For others, it’s unwanted fat. To achieve their best possible results, many patients benefit from a treatment plan that addresses both.

If you’re wanting to get a better idea of which treatments you need and what kind of results you can expect, we strongly recommend booking an appointment for an in-depth consultation. During your consultation, our team of aesthetic specialists will assess your double chin, ask you about your medical history, and customize a treatment plan that supports your needs and goals and works with your schedule, preferences, and budget.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting Elite is a fat-targeting double chin treatment that harnesses the power of extreme cold to destroy fat cells. This process is known as cryolipolysis. Most of our patients at Phases experience a 20 to 25% decrease in fat in the target area after completing a full round of treatments.

The fat cells destroyed by the sub-freezing temperatures are naturally eliminated from the body in the months following your treatments. The number of treatments needed depends entirely on the needs and goals of the patient, but we typically recommend at least 2.

CoolSculpting Elite’s effectiveness and ease have made it one of the most popular treatments we offer at Phases. And not only is it effective for use, it’s also safe. CoolSculpting is FDA-approved for eliminating stubborn pockets of fat using its signature cooling technology.

The cost of CoolSculpting Elite treatments breaks down by cycle:

1 to 2 cycles: $750.00 per cycle

3 to 4 cycles: $675.00 per cycle

5 to 6 cycles: $637.50 per cycle

7/more cycles: $600.00 per cycle

After getting your CoolSculpting double chin treatment, you will most likely begin to notice your results after about 4 to 6 weeks. Most patients at Phases realize their full results within 3 to 4 months of their last treatment session. Like many other nonsurgical and noninvasive treatments, CoolSculpting will not require you to take any downtime.

Ulthera

Ulthera, also called Ultherapy, is an FDA-approved nonsurgical skin-tightening treatment that lifts and tightens skin by stimulating collagen. The device uses micro-targeted acoustic energy to target the skin on the surface and many layers down.

Used as a noninvasive double chin treatment, Ultherapy can help resolve the skin laxity on the neck that can contribute to and exacerbate the appearance of double chins.

Ultherapy treatment costs $850 to $3,400, and you don’t have to take any downtime after each session. While Ultherapy does deliver amazing results, these results don’t appear overnight. Most of our patients at Phases Skin Care and Laser Center begin to notice their results 4 to 6 months after their last session. These improvements will continue to develop for up to another 12 months.

As with most treatments, maintaining your results can require maintenance appointments, and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle will help you get the most out of your treatment results in the long run. Since Ultherapy results tend to last for quite some time, many of our patients only need to schedule an Ultherapy maintenance session every 2 years.

Since Ulthera is primarily a skin-tightening treatment, it can do more than just reduce and improve the appearance of a double chin. By tightening the skin, Ultherapy can also minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as crepey skin.

RF Microneedling

Like Ulthera, RF microneedling can be used as a double chin treatment when used to tighten the loose skin on the neck and below the chin. The primary difference between them is that RF microneedling can be better suited for treating smaller areas of skin with precision.

At Phases Skin Care and Laser Center, we use the Secret RF and Vivace devices for RF microneedling. Both of these devices use the same types of technology, but each device has its strong suits. You can leave it to our professional aesthetic providers to choose the right RF microneedling device for your skin and your needs.

RF microneedling uses tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin that neither scar nor cause lasting damage. What this does is stimulate an intense healing response that sends your body’s collagen production into overdrive, causing the treated skin to tighten.

The addition of RF (radiofrequency) heat to the treatment makes it even more effective. RF heat allows these treatment devices to affect skin tissue deeper than the microneedles can penetrate, extending their range without causing additional damage.

RF microneedling treatment typically costs $800 to $2,160, and most of our patients at Phases only need 1 to 3 days to recover after their 1- to 2-hour sessions.

Are nonsurgical double chin treatments better than surgery?

The short answer is: it depends. And it depends on a lot of different factors. If your double chin is very pronounced and you’re looking for dramatic results in a relatively short period of time, surgery might be a better double chin treatment option for you.

If, on the other hand, your double chin is more mild and/or you’re okay with results that develop over time, then a nonsurgical option might be your best bet. Nonsurgical double chin treatments can also be a better option for patients who don’t want to or can’t afford to take significant downtime after their procedure.

Another potential tradeoff with surgeries like facelifts, neck lifts, and liposuction is that they typically leave permanent scars at the site of the incision(s).

If you’re not sure if you’d be a better candidate for a surgical or nonsurgical double chin treatment, we’d be happy to help you schedule a consultation with an aesthetic specialist at Phases as well as with one of our plastic surgeons at Turkle & Associates

We’re fully committed to listening to your goals and recommending the treatments we’re confident can make the difference you need. If we don’t think you’re a good candidate for either surgical or nonsurgical solutions, we’ll be sure to let you know and create a custom treatment plan
