The Problem
Full and plump cheeks are a hallmark of youthful skin and beauty. With age, that fullness starts to diminish as subcutaneous fat disappears.
Our skin elasticity also decreases as we get older. What that means is that, when that subcutaneous fat disappears, our skin has a harder time fitting tightly to the form of our face with less to fill it out, giving the appearance that our skin just doesn’t fit as well anymore.
The Solution
Fortunately, there are treatments to correct wrinkled and sagging cheeks. Whether or not you get a surgical or nonsurgical cheek lift can depend on your preferences and goals. But the need for surgery can also depend on how soon you seek treatment.
The older you get, the more severe these issues can become. Our expert providers at Phases Skin Care and Laser Center and Turkle & Associates (our plastic surgery center) are fully equipped to provide you with a nonsurgical cheek lift in Indianapolis or a surgical cheek lift—whichever best suits your wants and needs.
Let’s walk through your options!
What is a cheek lift?
A cheek lift is a type of facelift that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and loose skin on the patient’s cheeks. As a cosmetic surgery, cheek lifts can provide dramatic transformations that last and take years off your face.
A surgical facelift procedure typically takes 3 to 6 hours and can require a fair amount of downtime. Downtime can be divided into 2 overlapping categories: physical downtime (how much time your body needs to rest and recover) and social downtime (how long you might want to avoid social interactions for cosmetic reasons).
For a surgical cheek lift, expect 1 week of physical downtime and 3 to 4 weeks of social downtime.
What is a nonsurgical cheek lift?
As with nonsurgical facelifts, a nonsurgical cheek lift refers to a number of treatments that focus on the same symptoms as their surgical counterparts—the main symptoms being sagging skin and wrinkles in the cheek area.
Nonsurgical cheek lift treatments include:
- Dermal fillers like the JUVÉDERM and RHA collections
- Ultherapy
- Microneedling RF
- Ellacor Micro-Coring
These minimally invasive and noninvasive treatments are safe and effective for patients looking to reduce the signs of aging on the cheeks, but they’re not perfect equivalents of a surgical cheek lift. The results provided by nonsurgical cheek lift treatments are usually more subtle. They also don’t typically last as long. Maintaining your results in the long term requires regular touch-up appointments.
But nonsurgical cheek lift treatments are also much less expensive in terms of upfront costs, they don’t tend to require as much downtime (physical or social), and they don’t come with as many risks as surgery and anesthesia. According to the Mayo Clinic, people who smoke, drink heavily, are obese, or have high blood pressure are at an increased risk of complications during surgery.

Which one is right for you?
No two patients are the same, and the deciding factors can vary quite a bit from person to person. Some questions to ask yourself when deciding between a surgical or nonsurgical cheek lift in Indianapolis include:
- What are my goals for treatment?
- What is my budget?
- How much downtime am I able to take for recovery?
We’ll work with you to explore the best options for you. Your expert provider will also help determine the severity of your symptoms as well as your medical and aesthetic needs. Once that’s taken care of, we’ll create a custom treatment plan to reduce the appearance of cheek sagging and wrinkles and restore your youthful radiance.
