Key Steps to Full Face Rejuvenation in Indianapolis

As we age our skin goes through a lot of changes. Wrinkles, sun damage, and other conditions can start to make us feel older than we feel. It can get to the point where you might find yourself wishing for a clean slate!

With deep laser resurfacing at Phases Skin Care and Laser Center we’re able to offer our patients full face rejuvenation in Indianapolis. On its own, a deep ablative laser peel can address multiple skin concerns and leave your skin looking and feeling younger.

We can combine your laser resurfacing with injectables or medical-grade skincare as part of a customized treatment plan to help you achieve the skin of your dreams.

Full face rejuvenation with deep laser resurfacing

Deep laser resurfacing removes the outer layer of your skin to treat damage and boost your skin’s health and appearance.

What happens to our skin as it ages

Your body is naturally refreshing your skin cells all the time. Its continual production of collagen and elastin gives your skin its shape and structure. As age, all those processes slow down.

With less collagen and elastin, our skin can start to sag and lose volume. The body still produces new skin cells, but does so more slowly. That’s why we can end up with rough skin texture and scars.

A little bit of science

Our skin is composed of 3 year layers: the epidermis, dermis, and the hypodermis. The epidermis is the visible top layer with the dermis right below it. Laser treatments generally work on the epidermis and the dermis layers.

Deep laser resurfacing is able to treat damage in the dermis by completely removing the outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis. This stimulates your body’s natural healing response to start producing more collagen, elastin, and newer skin cells. The result? Younger looking skin, because it’s physically newer skin.

Deep laser resurfacing treats:

  • Deep wrinkles
  • Skin laxity
  • Acne scarring
  • Large pores and texture

Because of the depth this particular treatment reaches, it can be considered a non-surgical alternative to a facelift procedure for those not ready for surgery. Deep laser resurfacing can also enhance and prolong the results of a facelift surgery that’s already been done.

The process for full face rejuvenation in Indianapolis

Deep laser resurfacing, also called the deep ablative peel, is performed by Dr. Turkle because the level of intensity is akin to a surgical procedure.

Consultation

When you visit us for any aesthetic treatment at Phases Skin Care and Laser Center, we always start with an in-depth consultation. It’s important to us that we get to know you and your unique aesthetic goals.

During your consultation, Dr. Turkle will ask about your medical history, examine your skin, and ask you about your desired results. We’ll answer any questions you have about the procedure and provide pre and post operative instructions to ensure you get the most out of your deep laser resurfacing treatment.

Preparing for your treatment

We’ll provide you with detailed instructions based on your individual needs. However, these are some general guidelines to follow prior to getting deep laser resurfacing:

  • Avoid tanning and heavy sun exposure for several weeks. Use a broad spectrum SPF daily.
  • Avoid abrasive skin care products like chemical peels, retinols, and exfoliants for at least the few days before.
  • Stop smoking and using tobacco products.
  • Tell your doctor about any regular medications you are taking.
  • Stop taking certain medications like aspirin or certain anti-inflammatory medications because they can increase bleeding.
  • Arrive at your appointment with a clean face and no makeup.

The Procedure

When you arrive for your deep laser resurfacing treatment you’ll be shown to one of our comfortable and relaxing treatment rooms. We’ll go over the procedure again and answer any last minute questions you might have.

You’ll be given protective eyewear for the duration of your treatment. Dr. Turkle will use the laser device to evenly and accurately treat your entire face. The laser will remove the top layers of damaged skin while gently heating the dermis layer to promote collagen production.

Deep laser resurfacing will take about 1 to 2 hours. After your treatment, we’ll assess the skin and provide you with your aftercare instructions.

Next Steps

It’s important to understand that while deep laser resurfacing has a longer recovery period than other treatments, it provides guaranteed, long-lasting results with just 1 treatment.

Immediately after your treatment, you’ll experience redness and swelling that should go down within a few days. You’ll need to plan for about 1 to 2 weeks of recovery time.

Getting the most out of your full face rejuvenation

We’ll provide you with specific instructions based on your individual needs. For the most part these tips will help you enjoy a speedy laser treatment recovery and enhance your results:

  • Use only gentle cleansers as directed by your doctor
  • Avoid skincare products that may irritate your new skin.
  • Wear sunscreen every day and avoid sun exposure while your skin is still healing.
  • Using an ice pack and elevating your head at night can help with swelling.

Using medical grade skincare is a great way to maintain your results and care for your skin in the long term. Our aestheticians are always happy to make recommendations based on your skin’s unique profile.

Are there other options for full face rejuvenation?

Botox

Cosmetic injectables can help alleviate some of the same signs of aging that deep laser resurfacing addresses, but with a fraction of the downtime. The tradeoff is that the results from injectables won’t last as long as deep laser resurfacing and won’t be able to treat deeper wrinkles and overall textural problems.

Neurotoxins like Botox treat wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them. After you’ve had a laser resurfacing treatment, you could use Botox to prevent the appearance of new wrinkles.

Other laser treatments

Phases Skin Care and Laser Center is proud to offer the largest selection of laser treatments in the Midwest. If you’re not sure a deep ablative peel is for you, we can certainly look at other options for skin resurfacing treatments.

Surgical options

For some patients, it may be time to consider a surgical procedure to tighten their skin. A facelift procedure can address skin laxity and wrinkles and provide full facial rejuvenation when combined with a brow lift. Of course, a surgical procedure may have a more involved recovery process but the results will be permanent.

Frequently asked questions about full face rejuvenation

What does deep laser resurfacing feel like?

The sensation you feel during your ablative peel will vary depending on your specific tolerance. We have multiple anesthetic options available to increase your comfort, especially for those with sensitive skin. Most patients tolerate the treatment really well and say it feels like a sunburn afterwards.

Who is the ideal candidate for a deep ablative peel?

Most of the patients we see for this treatment are in their 50s and 60s. Patients who have deep wrinkles that aren’t affected by Botox or who have extensive sun damage can benefit the most from this procedure.

Do you combine deep laser resurfacing with other treatments?

One of the best parts of laser resurfacing is that it addresses so many conditions on its own. We don’t typically combine it with other procedures, because we don’t really have to! Now, after your treatment we can discuss what long term skin maintenance will look like to keep you looking stunning for years to come.

Should I get laser resurfacing or a chemical peel?

There are a lot of things to consider when you’re looking at laser resurfacing vs chemical peel treatments. For deep laser resurfacing, chemical peels can’t really beat the results.
