Medications, Supplements and Herbal Products to Avoid Before Plastic or Cosmetic Surgery

The discontinuation of these medications for 7-10 days prior to injections or more invasive plastic or cosmetic surgery should be considered in order to reduce bleeding and bruising. If one is taking blood thinners or anti-inflammatory medications for the management of a medical condition, one should get the permission from their doctor before holding these medications as doing so might cause unwanted risks and side effects. Neurotoxin injections, such as BOTOX Cosmetic, do not generally require stopping these drugs but there is some increased risk of bruising if you continue to take them. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or nurse.
